Ulkomaisella kunniakirjalla palkittu P. D. James lähetti kustantajansa Otavan kautta palkintotilaisuuteen sähköpostitse seuraavan kiitosviestin:
I am delighted that the Finnish Whodunnit Society has honoured me by awarding me their annual prize given to a foreign crime writer. I know that I have many fans in Finland and that yours is a country which not only produces excellent crime writing, but is discriminating in its choice.
I wish I could be with you all on this occasion to receive the prize in person, but I know that a representative from my publishers, Otava, will be there on my behalf and will send on my diploma.
I send my best wishes to the Finnish Whodunnit Society, my warm thanks on the honour they are bestowing on me, and my best wishes to all my readers in Finland.
